From side hustle to small business, this is how we grew Aleutian Blades.
Everything Starts With an Idea 🌱
In early 2022, two brothers launched what they thought would just be a small summer side hustle. They called it Arctic Blades, a name made up for fun with a simple logo, not knowing how far things would go. It all started with a simple goal: to earn money, stay busy, and contribute to the community. It wasn’t a legitimate business at first, just a few lawn jobs here and there.
With the help and guidance of his older brother, a simple lawn mowing idea began to take shape. What started with just a poor-condition mower and a weed eater barely hanging on slowly small-town powerhouse machines built on support, and determination.

Another Set of Hands, Same Grind
By late 2023, things started picking up a bit more. We were still figuring things out and doing everything casually, no real system, just taking on lawns as they came. But even at that pace, it started to feel like a lot for just the two of us, especially being young and juggling everything ourselves. That’s when we brought in someone new, a younger crew member who ended up becoming one of the original members. We needed the extra help, and even though he was the youngest, he jumped right in and stuck with it.
Fast Forward to Today
Now in 2025, Aleutian Blades is closer than ever to having a refined system in place. That progress is what pushed us to officially license the business back in August 2024. Since then, our team has grown. We’ve brought on a few new members, and we received brand-new equipment through the Aleutian Micro Market Grant as of July 2025. Read the article on our blog. The new gear helps us work faster, more efficiently, and with better results. We’ve made our share of mistakes along the way, but every one of them taught us something. We’ve grown, and we’re still learning, constantly improving how we can serve the people of Unalaska.
